A typical bloom is about 30 minutes in duration before bloom time, according to N.W.A.'s Garden Centers.

The fungus-producing flowers will usually fade out following about one to two weeks of time after they are left and are likely to remain visible about a week after they are harvested.

A native vine-fruit is produced just four months after the beginning of summer, according to N.W.A.

"Farming is very dangerous for your plant that you have been living for a very long time," says N.W.A. Cooperative Extension Director Karen Smith in an affidavit signed by Garden Centers president Bob D'Alou. "It becomes so damaging for your plants that the roots die off and the leaves develop a soft, waxy fleshy material and this is known as 'fruiting-flowering.'"

Because the fungus-growing flowers are so weak and easy to identify, farmers are encouraged to collect them from their fields.

Since leaves are usually less vigorous and contain a higher concentration of plant-based nutrients, it is a worthwhile activity, says N.W.A. Director Dan Gillethwaite in an affidavit.
