The installation of the new housing, along with several additional new buildings, has been approved by Northland Land Development Corp. in June and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

Northland Land said this is the first home to be built in the area, which will include two new parking spaces for its current employees, a two-story warehouse house for its current tenants, and 3,000-gallon water pumps, according to reports.

This project will include a multi-story 1,200-square-foot apartment building with 2,500 residential units, with an additional 200-square-foot residential unit to follow.

The new unit will feature a 100,000-square-foot retail space that will store more than 700,000 cubic yards of products and more than 3,000 parking spaces, according to city estimates.

"I'm grateful for the support you gave me over the last year to ensure that I am able to offer a successful public housing project like this," said City Manager Dave Capps of the neighborhood. "I am proud of all I have accomplished, and you and your colleagues are a very generous and diverse group. Thanks for being here, and I look forward to seeing you again."

In the meantime, residents will experience new opportunities at Capps' department store. The store is designed by the same team that designed the iconic Northland house, and will be
